Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers to look at – both from a distance and up close. Until grabbing this picture, I’ve never realized the carefully design pattern of the center (where the seeds are) and how mathematical it appears; it actually represents a perfect Fibonacci sequence. Each tiny little seed is snuggled up perfectly in its space but never intruding on the seeds next to it. It’s a design that only God can think of.
Keeping sunflowers on our property not only gives opportunity to be thankful for warm weather (writing this while 42 degrees Fahrenheit outside…I cannot wait for this again!) but also allows me to watch the large variety of beautiful birds come to feast. Fun fact – this sunflower grew from seed that fell from a bird feeder on our front porch. It’s almost like the birds knew to drop a couple seeds to secure their food search efforts!
What’s your favorite flower, and does it commonly grow in your area?
